Topic: Firmware update without amending npa file

We have some earlier Nions running firmware version 1.1.3  independantly and also units on the XDAB.
Upto which version of firmware can we successfully update these units to, without having to change or update the npa file loaded therein these units.

In this respect it might be handy to have some information available grouping all the firmware versions, within which the npa file need not be changed whatsoever; i.e. the firmware update may be carried out ,without any risk whatsoever of upsetting the ongoing operation of the nion/s, at the installation.

Tks/Rgds.

Re: Firmware update without amending npa file

If you need to update the firmware on a NION, then you NEED to update the .npa file accordingly. This generally amounts to opening the file in the new version of NWare, going to the Tools menu and choosing "Update all out of date devices" from the menu. This will then tell you what devices in your project file need to be updated.

If there are no devices that need to be updated, then you could, theoretically just update the firmware in the NION. However, this is NOT RECOMMENDED as you should always update and deploy your project file when you update the firmware in a NION.

If you are happy with how the project file works, then I expect you should be happy with the version of firmware. If you are trying to add some functionality to your design, then you will need to deploy the project anew anyway.

Always update everything at the same time and keep the same version of NWare on your computer as you have on the NION. Mixed versions is a sure way to have problems.
