Xframe error

As always, I know its super old and outdated...
Not at work this morning, but a colleague powered up one of our X-Frames at work today, (fortunately one only performing some delay functions at this point, not one of our "major" systems)... Next thing I know I get an email with a picture of the display showing:

DSP error!
Error C3

He has temporarily bypassed it for the next two days, but when I go back in on Monday is there anything I'll be able to do to fix it? Like re-flash it? Or is it shot? Like I said, this isn't our "primary" system, but it was to be providing some delays for speakers on this smaller system. This happens to be the unit that a few years ago we were unable to access the programming on, got "memory full" errors when trying to connect with the Xware software (actually using an older x-ware trying to pull the original config off an old firmware version) - Finally this year I gave in and reflashed it to the newest firmware since the system it was originally hooked to is no longer in place, and moved it to this smaller system. The reason I'm mentioning all this is just to let you guys know its "history" and see if this error is related to something that was done in flashing the firmware or if one of the DSP chips is dead (which is my fear).

If that is the case, is it possible to bypass that DSP chip somehow? Like I said, this one is not running a very intensive program, I'm almost positive if its possible DSPs A and B could handle it on their own, but not sure if there's any way to do so.

HELP! Nion6 CM-1 Primary/Secondary with CISCO switches

Hello,

In a large installation with 30 NION apron and some CAB 4N, we found that some of them had the network port blocked. After some studies we detected that Primary and Secondary Cobranet ports share the same MAC Address.

The CISCO switches detects a MAC Address is changing from one port to another and for security reasons (MAC Flapping) blocks the ports. Network staff of this installation don't know how to resolve.

The urgent solution is unplug secondary port and be sure that the whole system is running.
But I need a better solution. Somebody knows how to configure CISCO for NION ? or can tell me a solution for that problem ?

Thanks.

Hello all,

I've been working on a version of the Knowledge Center that is more suited to viewing on touch screen tablets and phones.

Please try it out from your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Blackberry etc. and let me know what you think. Here's the link:

http://peaveyoxford.com/kcm

Notes:

- a wireless connection is recommended.

- on the PC you'll need to use Google Chrome or Safari, i.e. a webkit browser, rather than Firefox, IE etc.

The development platform I use is called Sencha Touch. It will also allow an installer to be built for the various operating systems. This'll mean the possibility of viewing the content direct from your device without the need for wireless or a mobile phone network connection.

All feedback welcome. Enjoy!

Andy.

X-Frame assistance

I know most of the discussion here focuses on the NION, but after I posted some questions in the regular Peavey forum, JoshM invited me over here to join in.

I'll start out with a little background - I've been working for a local theme park each summer since 2004 as their sound designer for the in park shows. Anyway, we're no longer using one of the venues there and are reallocating the equipment around the park. I've had a little experience working with the X Frame 1.3d software, and am slowly getting better (After playing with it a little bit about 2 years ago), I just recently figured out how to create a system with meters and level controls and a schematic in a separate window.

My biggest question is - does anyone have a true manual they could send me? The only thing I've been able to get after asking a couple different places, including emailing mmsupport, is the brochure style paper at http://mm.peavey.com/assets/tech_notes/ … me_415.pdf

I know this is a super old product and an upgrade to the 88 or even a digitool would probably be beneficial, but our budget doesn't support that at this time, so I'm trying to make the most of our existing equipment, at this time that means putting the xframe and its BOB into a different venue to provide processing where we've been hodgepodging things together for years. As I said I've figured out quite a bit with the X-Frame software, but had hit a roadbump where I ran out of DSP cycles when compiling a preliminary runthrough of the system. JoshM did help me a bit in that the GEQ's are essentially resource hogs and I've gotten that worked around, but I feel like having a manual in front of me could help me immensely with being able to optimize some of the other processing and control I'm trying to do here.

Virus Scanning Issues? Anyone???

Greetings everyone!

Today a customer informed me that they were having issues with Kaspersky's virus scanning tools incorrectly flagging NWare and NWare related files as infected with viruses. Even the .msi installer was flagged. To the best of all our knowledge there is NO virus laden code anywhere within NWare, so you can rest easy on that front. However, I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced issues with other virus scanning tools incorrectly flagging NWare and related .npa files as containing viruses.

Obviously one easy fix for this is to simply insert an exception into the scanning tool that allows it to ignore NWare and .npa files, but it seems to me that you shouldn't have to do this.

So, tell me... what issues have you had?

Thanks!
Josh

1.6.3 and serial control

One of the bug fixes, as noted in the release notes, for 1.6.3 involved how the serial port responded to a command. Here is the note;

741 - Serial port was not using raw output mode

The NION serial port was not using raw mode when sending data out of the port. This meant that CR/LF (carriage return / line feed) characters were added to lines that previously did not include them.

Because of a recent email to tech support, this may not be enough of an explanation, so let me go into a little more detail.

When a ControlSet (CS) or a ControlGet (CG) is done, the NION responds with a StatusIs. The exact string of the status response is not important for this discussion, but the termination is important.

Previously, the response end would be CR CR LF (actually, the hexadecimal value of 0D 0D 0A). So the bug is displayed in this case by receiving an extra carriage return.

From now on, starting with 1.6.3, this extra CR will not be sent. So the termination will now be CR LF

So what does this mean? Here is the bottom line;

1) If the external control is using a serial port for control.
2) The code was written to parse the response string all the way to the end of the string (which means it is looking at and parsing the extra CR).

Then upgrading to 1.6.3 and future firmware from earlier versions might cause control problems. Be sure you test things before you complete an upgrade, and plan accordingly.

Personally, I don't recommend doing an upgrade just because you can. Normally, I do an upgrade because a new feature is needed that is available only with a new version of software.

Hope this better explains what this bug was, and how it can impact the upgrade process.

Fergy
